As we age, we often find ourselves reflecting on experiences that eventually become a part of history, even though we may not realize it at the time.
I vividly remember attending Nixon’s second inauguration parade in 1973. For me, it wasn’t about political beliefs, but rather a unique opportunity to hang out with some upperclassmen who were considered cool by my peers.
Little did I know that it would go down in history as the only inauguration for a president and vice president who both resigned from office.
The bus ride was enjoyable and the crowd was relatively calm, especially compared to today’s standards. I recall a seasoned demonstrator showing us how police horses were trained to gently nudge away unwanted individuals.
As the motorcade approached, my rowdy group began chanting slogans. The car quickly passed by, and the moment was over in an instant.
