Vi is launching a new “brain gym” program to enhance brain health and cognitive function at its life plan community in La Jolla, California. The pilot program, conducted with 37 residents, aimed to improve cognitive function through training with Dividat, a cognitive motor technology company.
Residents interacted with Dividat’s Senso device by shifting their weight to answer questions related to cognitive health. The program resulted in improved cognitive function, with residents showing an 11% increase in reaction time and a 22% decrease in error rates during gameplay.
By gamifying cognitive tests, Vi at La Jolla Village encourages residents to improve their physical and cognitive capabilities. A survey revealed that 82% of residents are interested in brain health programs, indicating a strong desire for this type of programming.
The brain gym concept involves dual-tasking exercises that combine physical and cognitive tasks. The community also utilizes tech-enabled monitoring systems to reduce fall risk and offers various brain health-related programs. Personal trainers are available to help residents improve cognitive performance, with technology supporting overall well-being.
Upcoming steps for the brain gym program include informational sessions to showcase the case study results. The program will launch in August, with accessibility for all residents after receiving necessary equipment training.
Vi’s long-term goal is to provide continuity in brain health interventions across the spectrum to mitigate the impact of aging. The community is focused on lifestyle interventions and improving overall well-being for all residents.
