University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has announced that their virtual ward beds are now over 80% occupied, with plans to further expand. The trust is set to increase the number of community virtual ward beds by September 30, 2024, aiming to reduce admissions by 6,252 a year and cut down on 43,764 bed days. The virtual ward team has already reached a milestone of recording their 1,000th patient since the service launched in December 2022. Additionally, new pathways for urology, end of life care, heart failure, infective joints, and cellulitis are in development. The trust is proud of their progress and commitment to supporting as many patients as possible through their virtual ward services.
