A formal probe by Sen. Bob Casey, chairman of the US Senate Special Committee on Aging, has put A Place for Mom back in the national spotlight. The senator’s letter alleges “deceptive business practices” and questions the referral service’s claim of being an unbiased and no-cost service for families. A Place for Mom has not yet responded to the allegations. Senator Casey’s letter asks for transparency from the company regarding its referral practices and how they relate to payments from senior living providers. Concerns include potential upselling and increased costs for consumers. The letter also highlights reports of serious violations in some of the company’s award-winning communities. A response to the letter is expected by July 15.
