Wales sets out to create a single national clinical data repository by 2030
Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) has unveiled its ambitious mission to integrate health and social care data through the National Data Resource (NDR) platform. The ‘Organisational Strategy 2024-2030’ sets the digital roadmap for the next six years, aiming to provide world-leading digital services.
Helen Thomas, CEO of DHCW, emphasized the importance of the long-term strategy in advancing digital healthcare in Wales. The strategic plans include enabling digital transformation through a national platform hosted by DHCW and funded by the Welsh Government. By 2030, DHCW aims to unify all data stores and services on the NDR platform.
Expanding the digital health and care record to all settings in Wales is another key objective outlined in the strategy. This comprehensive record will provide a lifetime history of health data, ensuring better decision-making and improving care quality. A total of 20 strategic objectives aligned with five missions will guide DHCW towards its 2030 goals.
This operational strategy marks a significant milestone for DHCW as it solidifies its role in planning and delivering NHS services. Recent implementations of digital solutions, such as InterSystems TrakCare Lab Enterprise and electronic prescribing systems, demonstrate Wales’ commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery through technology.
