The healthcare translation app CardMedic has seen widespread adoption at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, with nearly 400 staff members downloading it since its launch in January 2024.

CardMedic aims to provide accessible and equitable care for non-English speaking patients by offering healthcare translation and interpreting services. The app offers pre-made clinical interactions in over 50 languages, making it a valuable tool for communication.

The successful pilot of CardMedic at Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s maternity department prompted its full launch across the entire trust. Chief Nursing Officer Amanda Fitzsimons highlighted the importance of bridging communication gaps during quick patient interactions, praising the app for its role in enhancing patient care.

Following positive feedback and recommendations from maternity staff, the trust plans to expand the use of CardMedic throughout the organization. Dr. Rachael Grimaldi, the app’s co-founder and CEO, expressed satisfaction at the app’s growing adoption within Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and other healthcare providers in London.

In addition to Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, over 20 other NHS organizations, including North East London Integrated Care Board and the Christie NHS Foundation Trust, also utilize CardMedic. The app’s recognition extended to winning the Digital Health Rewired Pitchfest in 2022.
