Logan Brenner, a paleoclimatologist and adjunct associate research scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, embarked on an unforgettable journey with the International Ocean Drilling Project. This expedition, which explored Hawaiian drowned reefs, brought together scientists from various countries and disciplines, giving Brenner the opportunity to advance her research into our planet’s past.
Although she couldn’t join the crew at sea due to her impending second child, Brenner contributed to the onshore team’s work in Germany. Their research on ancient coral samples aims to unveil insights into Earth’s history and the impact of climate change over hundreds of thousands of years.

Brenner’s passion for understanding the oceans’ past drives her to protect their future. By unlocking the hidden language of coral reefs, she hopes to shed light on how these vital ecosystems have responded to environmental changes throughout history, providing valuable insights for addressing today’s climate challenges.
Stay tuned as Brenner and her team delve deeper into the mysteries of the ocean’s past, uncovering a wealth of knowledge that may hold the key to safeguarding our planet’s most precious resource.
