An innovative project utilizing interactive light technology has been introduced by the Alzheimer’s Society in collaboration with Sport England and Social-Ability to enhance the lives of individuals with dementia.

The Happiness Programme, created by Social-Ability, was unveiled in 10 care homes nationwide on May 13, 2024, with the primary goal of instilling joy and cheer among residents.

Participants are encouraged to engage in various activities incorporating light technology, offering mentally and physically stimulating games such as bubble popping, piano playing, coloring, and more. The activities are facilitated through a portable projector, allowing for interactive games on different surfaces.

John Ramsey, co-founder of Social-Ability, expressed his dedication to spreading happiness and laughter to those with dementia and other conditions. The project, supported by Sport England, aims to promote movement and physical activity among individuals with dementia, ultimately improving their quality of life.

This collaboration highlights the commitment to evidence-based practices in dementia care, with a focus on enhancing outcomes for individuals living with the condition.

The successful implementation of the Happiness Programme by Social-Ability’s partners demonstrates the widespread adoption of innovative solutions for dementia care in the UK, Ireland, and Canada.

A recent survey supported by Alzheimer’s Society and Innovate UK revealed a growing interest among healthcare professionals in prescribing assistive technologies for individuals diagnosed with dementia.
