In my regular Techspert column, I usually focus on answering questions related to one specific topic. However, in my TechBytes episodes, I cover multiple questions from my readers on various tech topics spanning from smartphones to computers. If you have a burning question you’d like answered in the next TechBytes column, please submit it using this form. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Question #1: Lost Phone
Hey there! I have a habit of misplacing my phone and have lost it a couple of times. Is it safe to buy a new one and forget about the lost one? Can someone access my personal information on the missing smartphone?

Techspert’s Answer:
Both Android and iOS smartphones come equipped with apps like “Find My” on iPhone and “Find My Device” on Android devices. These apps can help you locate your lost smartphone and other connected devices, and even allow you to remotely factory reset the lost device to protect your data. Make sure to familiarize yourself with these apps and leverage them to safeguard your personal information. Learn more about Apple’s Find My app and Android’s Find My Device for detailed instructions.

Question #2: Find My Wi-Fi Password
I want to find the password of the Wi-Fi network I’m currently connected to. How can I do that?

Techspert’s Answer:
On iPhone, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi > Tap on the Info icon beside your selected network to view the password. For most Android devices, go to Settings > Network and Internet > Internet/Wi-Fi > Tap on the gear icon next to the connected network > Select Share with QR code icon to display the password along with the QR code.

Question #3: Family Computer
We share a home computer among family members. How can I prevent others from accessing my personal files and documents? Also, how can I set restrictions for guests using the computer?

Techspert’s Answer:
You can create multiple users with different privileges on both Windows and Mac computers. Having distinct user accounts will help in preventing unauthorized access to personal files. Follow specific steps for adding new users on Mac and Windows as outlined in the response above.

Question #4: Antivirus for iPhone?
After reading your insightful article on online security, I’m curious about antivirus software for Apple devices, especially my iPhone. How can I ensure its security?

Techspert’s Answer:
Due to Apple’s stringent security measures, third-party antivirus apps are often unnecessary for iPhones. However, it’s essential to practice good cyber hygiene, such as using strong passwords, enabling 2-FA, and updating software regularly to stay safe from threats like malware and phishing scams.

Question #5: Remove PIN from PC
I recently got a Microsoft laptop and set up a PIN for login. How can I disable the PIN requirement when booting up the PC?

Techspert’s Answer:
While it may seem tedious, having a PIN or password on your computer is crucial for data security. Without it, anyone could access your confidential information. It’s recommended to keep the PIN for safety reasons.
