The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust successfully implemented a new patient administration system (PAS) last weekend, marking the first phase of its transition to a modern Electronic Patient Record (EPR) from System C.

This PAS deployment is part of a larger digital transformation initiative at the trust, designed to enhance patient care through innovative digital solutions. Replacing a legacy system that had been in use for two decades, the new PAS seamlessly transferred over one million patient records and trained over 5,000 staff members on its functionality.

Nigel Lee, the trust’s Director of Strategy and Partnerships, emphasized the meticulous planning and testing involved in transferring patient information, ensuring minimal disruption to patients. He highlighted the system’s importance in setting the stage for future digital enhancements to streamline hospital operations and promote collaborative working with healthcare partners.

During the three-week post-deployment period, additional staff will be on hand to support a smooth transition for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital, encompassing both Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The PAS implementation is part of a multi-million-pound initiative to modernize medical record management and access at the trust.

System C’s Chief Executive, Nick Wilson, expressed confidence in providing expert guidance and support based on successful implementations at other NHS clients. The transition to the new system is expected to be seamless, with ongoing support to ensure its success.

Having previously piloted CareFlow at Jersey General Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit in May 2023, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital has now extended System C’s solution to adult and neonatal intensive care units, further enhancing patient care.
