NHS England has awarded an £8.5 million contract to consultancy firm KPMG to facilitate the adoption of the federated data platform (FDP) by trusts and integrated care boards (ICBs). KPMG will be providing technical support and implementation services for the FDP until 17 March 2026. The firm will collaborate with NHSE, trusts, and ICBs to implement the federated data platform software, develop adoption strategies for nationally provided solutions, and assist in implementing individual federated platforms. As per the contract details, KPMG is expected to help 40 trusts implement the FDP within nine months of the deal being awarded. This initiative comes after NHSE controversially awarded the FDP contract to US firm Palantir in November 2023, with IQVIA also being contracted for privacy-enhancing technology. The FDP is set to roll out in three phases over the next three years, with 70 trusts expected to adopt it this year. NHSE has already secured agreements with 41 trusts and is in discussions with an additional 29. In response to legal action by the Good Law Project, NHS England has committed to reissuing its patient data contracts with Palantir and IQVIA with fewer redactions, following the heavily redacted initial publications of the contracts.
