As told to Erica Rimlinger
Throughout my journey with triple negative breast cancer, I faced unexpected challenges. It all began when my mother was diagnosed with the disease, prompting me to get genetic testing for the BRCA gene. Despite a delayed diagnosis, I eventually discovered I carried the gene myself. Battling cancer during a global pandemic was isolating, and complications arose due to medical oversights, including misplaced tumor markers and a recurrence after treatment. Receiving the proper care and advocating for myself became vital in my fight against this aggressive form of cancer. My story serves as a reminder to stay informed and engaged in your healthcare decisions, because ultimately, you are your best advocate.
