When trying to conceive, it’s important to reach a healthy weight to reduce complications. Some turn to weight-loss drugs like Ozempic or Wegovy, but is it safe to continue during pregnancy? Stories range from miscarriages to zero complications.
Research on the risks of semaglutide during pregnancy is limited, but high doses have been linked to miscarriages and birth defects in animals. Experts recommend stopping semaglutide at least two months before conception to ensure it’s out of your system.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it’s advised to avoid semaglutide due to potential risks. Alternative therapies may be considered.
If unintentionally pregnant while on Ozempic or Wegovy, inform your OB for monitoring. It may be necessary to stop the medication for a safe pregnancy.
Experts recommend nutrition counseling for weight maintenance post-medication. Despite challenges, taking a break from semaglutide during pregnancy is safest for the baby.
