Half of the world’s population menstruates, yet discussing periods with pre-teens and teens can be challenging. Starting this conversation early is key. Jessica Biel, in her new kids book designed for ages 5-9, aims to educate children about periods in a positive and approachable manner.
Releasing on May 7, A Kids Book About Periods by Jessica Biel is already a top seller on Amazon, indicating parents’ readiness to engage in these discussions. Biel’s motivation stemmed from the desire to make talks about periods more comfortable for both kids and parents.

“People don’t talk enough about periods,” said Biel, a mother of two. “I’ve always felt strongly that we need to normalize the discussion around periods.” By creating this book, Biel hopes to engage kids in these conversations early on. Collaborating with PERIOD., a non-profit fighting period poverty, five percent of the proceeds from the book will go to the organization.
The goal of A Kids Book About Periods is to encourage positive dialogues between children and adults on menstruation, empowering the next generation. The book will feature Biel’s personal story, offering insight and normalizing the experience of getting one’s period.
Biel emphasizes the importance of ending the stigma around periods, highlighting it as a natural process. Leading by example and discussing openly about our bodies can equip kids with the confidence to do the same, setting them up for a lifetime of self-assurance. As the book suggests, getting your period is a shared human experience and is indeed something cool.
A Kids Book About Periods releases on May 7, inviting parents to prepare for open and honest conversations to break the taboos surrounding menstruation.
