The Social Market Foundation Think Tank has proposed a revolutionary solution to improve Britain’s struggling NHS – extending prescribing rights to Singaporean GPs and implementing Singaporean-style polyclinics. In their recent briefing paper, the think tank outlines how these measures could alleviate the pressure on UK GPs and enhance access to medical care for patients in need. The author of the paper, Max Thilo, highlights Singapore’s efficient healthcare system as a model for success, with lower costs and better health outcomes than the UK. Introducing polyclinics and allowing Singaporean doctors to consult and prescribe to British patients could be the key to transforming the NHS. Furthermore, liberalizing prescribing rights for Singaporean telemedicine providers could offer affordable and high-quality healthcare to low-income patients in the UK. These bold proposals may be just what the NHS needs to thrive in the future.
