Introducing the Techspert column, TechBytes, where multiple questions from various readers are answered. If you have a tech question you’d like to be answered in the next TechBytes column, submit it using this form. Let’s get started with some of the questions received.

Q1: What does the extra data in a URL mean when forwarded from an email?
A1: The data after the question mark in a URL are query parameters, providing additional information to a web server. In the example provided, they are campaign parameters used for differentiation.

Q2: How do you attach a file to an email?
A2: Most email providers allow drag-and-drop or clicking on the attachment icon to attach a file. On smartphones, use the sharing feature to attach a file to an email.

Q3: How do I dispose of my defunct laptop safely?
A3: If the device cannot turn on, seek help at an electronic store or consider recycling through Apple, Walmart, or Best Buy. If concerned about privacy, physically damaging the device is an option.

Q4: Error message when installing MS Word 2003 on Windows 11
A4: This error may occur due to missing registry keys. Microsoft support provides detailed instructions on troubleshooting and resolving this issue.

Q5: Accessing a deceased loved one’s laptop
A5: It can be challenging and usually requires legal guidance. Microsoft and Apple offer instructions for this situation.
