Your pelvic floor is a crucial muscle group that supports many functions in your body. Weakness in these muscles can lead to various issues like urinary incontinence, back injuries, and more. Pelvic floor physical therapist Kristen Lettenberger shares common habits that weaken pelvic floor muscles and offers tips for maintaining a healthy pelvic floor.

One common mistake is overdoing kegel exercises, which can exhaust the muscles and lead to dysfunction. Instead, focus on moderation and varying the speed of your kegels for optimal results.

Sucking in your belly and holding your breath can also put unnecessary strain on your pelvic floor. Try to practice diaphragmatic breathing and maintain good posture to alleviate this pressure.

Additionally, wearing tight clothing and blowing your nose on the toilet can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction. Be mindful of these habits and make changes where necessary to support a healthy pelvic floor.

If you experience symptoms like urinary leakage or pelvic heaviness, consider seeking help from a pelvic floor therapist for personalized treatment. Remember, maintaining a strong and healthy pelvic floor is essential for overall health and well-being.
