Exploring the Transformation of North East Healthcare Through a £1m 5G Project
Businesses specializing in 5G technologies have the opportunity to revolutionize healthcare services in the North East of England. Through an innovation acceleration program, ideas for improving patient flow and discharge services will be explored, positioning the region at the forefront of technological advancements in healthcare.
Collaborating with CPI and partners, businesses can test their concepts and gain access to early adoption pathways in health and care settings. Selected 5G innovations with the potential to enhance health outcomes will be tested and upscaled in CPI’s 5G healthcare testbed environment.
The top two businesses showcasing significant clinical and economic impact will progress to real-world healthcare settings within the North East, such as hospitals or care homes. If successful, these 5G-enabled innovations could be adopted nationwide across the UK’s integrated care boards.
Cllr Nick Kemp, from the North East Combined Authority, emphasizes the region’s commitment to becoming a center of excellence for 5G technology. Supporting innovative businesses in technology adoption and growth aligns with the North East’s industrial strategy for a stronger, inclusive economy and improved public services.
This initiative, backed by the North East Combined Authority, marks a unique opportunity for businesses to pioneer technology in healthcare and potentially revolutionize patient services.
Funding for the project has been awarded to key partners including CPI, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and Boldyn Networks, among others. Collaborators aim to leverage the power of 5G technology to address healthcare system challenges and enhance services in the region.
