Abandoned places are often spooky, whether they be houses, buildings, or theme parks. However, abandoned islands take creepiness to a whole new level. Despite their eerie vibes, the ruins of twelve deserted islands have intriguing histories that are worth exploring.

1. **Mitsubishi’s Gunkanjima Island:** Mitsubishi established this small island off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan to tap into a large coal deposit. The island powered Japan’s industrial revolution in the 1940s but was eventually deserted when the coal ran out.

2. **Poveglia Plague Island:** This forbidden island near Venice was used as a quarantine station during the plague. Over 160,000 people are said to have died there, making it a haunted location. Visitors are no longer allowed on the island.

3. **No Man’s Island:** Located off the coast of Nettlestone in England, this island was part of Palmerston’s Follies, Victorian-era fortresses built for defense. It was later turned into a luxury resort that failed due to an outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease.

4. **Disney’s Discovery Island:** Once a popular Disney attraction in Florida, this island housed exotic animals but was closed in 1999. Today, the island is off-limits due to nature reclaiming the abandoned buildings.

5. **McNab’s Island:** Situated off the coast of Halifax, Canada, this island has various ruins including old military forts, a family graveyard, and a former soda factory. The island has been abandoned since World War II.

These abandoned islands have fascinating stories that blend history and mystery, making them intriguing destinations for those curious about the past. Explore these eerie locations if you’re up for an adventure!
