Is 40 really the new 20? As I prepare to celebrate my 46th birthday this week, I firmly believe that there is a wealth of life waiting after turning 40. This decade has become my favorite so far, surprising me in many ways. In celebration of my birthday and embracing the journey of aging gracefully, I want to share a few of the things I love about life in my 40s. Whether you’re in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, I’d love to hear if you agree.
1. Embracing Authenticity: One significant change I’ve noticed as I’ve aged is that I no longer feel the need to please others or worry about their opinions of me. I used to hold back parts of myself to fit in or avoid offending anyone. Now, I embrace who I am fully, understanding that I am not meant for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine. It’s liberating to let go of the need for approval and just be myself.
2. Confidence in My Own Skin: Despite the physical changes that come with age, I have never felt more confident in my body. Embracing imperfections and scars as part of my unique journey has allowed me to appreciate my body in a whole new light. This newfound confidence has made me feel more attractive and comfortable in my own skin, bringing a sense of joy and freedom.
3. Parenting Evolution: Watching my children grow into independent and self-sufficient individuals has been an unexpected joy of this decade. While parenting teenagers has its challenges, it’s fulfilling to see them navigate the world on their own. As my husband and I approach the empty nest phase, I find myself excited for this next chapter in our lives and the opportunity to witness our children’s continued growth.
4. Embracing Fun: Surprisingly, I am having more fun in my 40s than I ever did in my younger years. This shift may be attributed to various factors, such as having self-sufficient kids, increased confidence, and a shared vision with my husband. By focusing on creating a life we both desire, we have found joy in the present moment and a deeper connection with each other.
As I reflect on these aspects of life in my 40s, I am excited for the future and the possibilities that lie ahead. Age truly is just a number, and there is so much beauty and growth to be found in each decade of life. Let’s embrace it wholeheartedly.
