
Remembering our dear friend, mentor, and colleague, Richard J. Deckelbaum, who passed away on October 2. Richard was a renowned figure at Columbia University, where he made significant contributions to nutrition research and global health efforts.
Throughout his decades-long career, Richard led various divisions and centers focused on pediatric health and nutrition while also engaging in groundbreaking research on lipid disorders and omega-3 fatty acids. His impact extended globally, with projects in Kenya, Zambia, the West Bank, and more, all aimed at improving healthcare and research capacities.
Aside from his professional achievements, Richard was a beloved mentor to many, offering guidance and support that shaped countless careers. His compassionate nature and dedication to his work and family left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Richard’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the work he accomplished. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
