Did you know that over 1 trillion LEGO bricks have been manufactured since the mid-1950s? Unfortunately, most curbside recycling programs do not accept the ABS plastic used in LEGO production. That’s where Brick Recycler comes in – an innovative initiative dedicated to repurposing and recycling LEGO pieces, keeping them out of landfills and bringing them back into the cycle of play and learning.

With LEGO producing over 60 billion new bricks annually, there are hundreds of billions of unused pieces sitting in storage or ending up in landfills. Brick Recycler invites individuals to donate their unused LEGO bricks by mail. These bricks are sorted and redistributed to extend their lifecycle, making them accessible to children and educational programs nationwide.

Challenges of Recycling LEGO Bricks

LEGO bricks are unique in their recycling challenge due to their composition of ABS plastic, rubber, and sometimes electrical components. This makes them incompatible with traditional curbside recycling centers in many U.S. cities. Brick Recycler steps in to handle and sort all LEGO donations, partnering with charities to distribute millions of LEGO pieces to various organizations, ensuring their educational and creative value is extended to those in need.

Support from Brick Recycler has had a significant impact on individuals like school psychologist Odile Smith, who uses the donations to assist students facing challenges and help them thrive educationally.

How You Can Make a Difference

If your LEGO collection is unused or you’ve outgrown it, consider donating it to Brick Recycler instead of letting it collect dust. In return for a suggested donation of $25 per box, you can contribute to a sustainable future by sending your LEGO pieces to Brick Recycler at 2496 Wyandotte Street, Mountain View, CA, 94043.
