A spoon of olive oil a day?
The health benefits of olive oil and the Mediterranean diet can help against colon cancer and heart arrhythmia, potentially leading to a longer life. While black olives may not be considered safe for consumption, some researchers advocate for daily consumption of olive oil to prevent health issues.
A recent study by US researchers involving mice showed that those given regular extra virgin olive oil experienced a decrease in various inflammation markers.
Although initial findings are from mouse models, human studies are needed to confirm these results. The study, titled “The Anti-Neuroinflammatory Effect of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil in the Triple Transgenic Mouse Model of Alzheimer’s Disease,” can be found online in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr. Domenico Praticò, the Senior Author of the study and a Professor at the University of Temple Lewis Katz School of Medicine, led the research. He holds various academic positions and is heavily involved in Alzheimer’s research.
Considering the potential health benefits, why not incorporate a daily spoonful of olive oil into your routine, inspired by ancient traditions like those of the Jewish community?
Similar to the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” adding olive oil to your diet, particularly in conjunction with a Mediterranean diet, may help protect against colon cancer.
