Andrea West and her future husband met during their final year of college, sparking a passionate romance. They soon moved back to Andrea’s hometown, got engaged, and were thrilled to announce Andrea’s pregnancy. Sadly, their joy was short-lived when Andrea suffered a miscarriage after just eleven weeks. Feeling devastated and lost, Andrea found solace in her husband’s unwavering support.
Determined to try again, Andrea became pregnant and took every precaution to ensure the baby’s health. She followed a strict diet, read pregnancy books, and focused on the baby’s well-being. When she began experiencing contractions, she went to the hospital, only to discover dangerously low levels of amniotic fluid, leading to an immediate induction of labor.
Their son, Adam, was born without major complications, but concerns arose as medical staff swiftly tended to him. It was later revealed that Adam had Cutis Marmorata Telangiectatica Congenita (CMTC), a rare vascular malformation. Despite the diagnosis, Adam passed all tests without issues and was discharged with a care routine for his unique skin condition.
CMTC is a rare disorder characterized by discolored skin patches due to dilated blood vessels, often with additional skin defects. Adam, a resilient fighter, has grown into a healthy and joyful young boy, excelling in mathematics and chess. Despite his struggles, he faces life with courage and determination, inspiring those around him.
Andrea remains an active advocate for those affected by CMTC, supporting organizations like the CMTC Alliance. By sharing Adam’s story and making a donation, you can help improve the lives of individuals facing rare diseases like CMTC.
