Listeria contamination led to a widespread recall of deli meat earlier this summer. Now, a new recall of ready-to-eat meat products has been initiated due to listeria, affecting nearly 10 million pounds of meat, including brands like Trader Joe’s and Fresh Express.
The recall, issued by Oklahoma-based meat company BrucePac, encompasses over 9.9 million pounds of meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Products were produced between June 19, 2024, and October 8, 2024, and were distributed nationwide to restaurants and institutions. Affected items bear the establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” alongside the USDA mark of inspection.
Some of the recalled products include Trader Joe’s Lemon Chicken & Arugula Salad, Fresh Express Chicken Caesar Salad, HEB Chicken Broccoli & Rice Casserole, Marketside Southwest Style Salad with Chicken, among others. The full list of recalled products can be found on the FSIS website.
FSIS discovered the issue during routine product testing, finding Listeria monocytogenes in finished meats from BrucePac. The bacteria can cause listeriosis, a potentially fatal infection that poses a higher risk to certain populations.
Listeriosis symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, and more. High-risk groups should be vigilant and seek medical attention if symptoms arise after consuming the recalled products. FSIS urges disposal of affected items or returning them for a refund.
