Fischer recounted the journey in her Instagram post, revealing that doctors discovered a lump in her left breast and diagnosed her with the aggressive form of breast cancer. Despite the challenging diagnosis, the cancer had not spread further, and the treatment exhibited promising results, as per MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Her treatment regimen included a lumpectomy on January 1, 2024, followed by 12 rounds of chemotherapy in February and three weeks of radiation in June. Fischer continues to receive Herceptin and Tamoxifen infusions and expressed gratitude for feeling great during her recovery.
Throughout her treatment, Fischer maintained her podcast Office Ladies to retain a sense of normalcy, while concealing her diagnosis. She shared that she lost her hair due to chemotherapy but managed with wigs and hats affectionately dubbed “Wigats” by her family.
Fischer’s decision to share her story now is to bid farewell to the wigs and encourage everyone to prioritize annual mammograms. She advises individuals to inquire with their healthcare providers about their Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score and undergo any necessary additional screenings.
“I’m thrilled to report that through the treatments, I am now cancer-free. I will continue with treatments and regular monitoring to maintain my health,” Fischer concludes, signing off her post with a humorous Michael Scott quote, “Get ’em checked, ladies.”
The American Cancer Society recommends women aged 40-44 with average risk for breast cancer to undergo an annual mammogram. Women with a family history of breast cancer may need screenings even earlier. Consult your OB/GYN for guidance on scheduling.
