When you grow up with parents who own a gym, gymnastics naturally becomes a part of your life from the very beginning. Jade Carey, a standout elite gymnast, has quickly made a name for herself with her exceptional skills on vault and floor. As an eight-time U.S. Women’s National Team member and the sixth most decorated American female gymnast, she has already achieved great success. Known as the current defending floor exercise Olympic champion and a two-time World medalist, Carey is now a seasoned member of the U.S. squad heading to Paris, just seven years after her international debut.
Despite the intense pressure of gymnastics, Carey understands the importance of balancing her life outside the gym. She and her father, who also serves as her coach, prioritize her mental and physical well-being by ensuring she takes regular breaks from training. These breaks help her feel refreshed and ready to tackle the next day’s challenges.
We caught up with Carey before her departure to Team USA training camp in Houston ahead of the Paris Olympics. Here are a few of her favorite off-duty items:
1. Simple skincare routine: Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask for moisturizing and Drunk Elephant B-Goldi Drops for a healthy glow. Aquaphor or Summer Fridays Lip Butter Bomb are her go-to lip products.
2. Netflix and giggle: Carey enjoys watching funny movies and rom-coms on Netflix to help her unwind and relax.
3. Recovery essentials: Therabody massage gun and NormaTech boots for quicker leg recovery. She also enjoys a nighttime routine with Tree Hut lotion and R.W. Knutson Just Tart Cherry Juice for better sleep.
4. Travel must-have: Carey always brings her red, white, and blue blanket from Goosebumps when she travels for comfort and good luck charm.
5. Casual footwear: Crocs and Birkenstocks are Carey’s favorites outside of the gym, perfect for relaxing in Oregon’s rivers.
6. Snack on-the-go: That’s It fruit bars and RX Bars are Carey’s go-to gym snacks.
7. Healthy hobbies: Journaling, vision boarding, and photography are hobbies that help Carey maintain a positive headspace and creativity outside of training.
8. Lucky charm: The Olympic Rings necklace, a gift from her mom, serves as a reminder of her achievements and her mother’s pride.
