In today’s technology-driven world, many kids view reading as “uncool” and boring, leading to a decline in library visits at schools worldwide. However, reading is essential for children’s development, as it enhances imagination, memory, vocabulary, and keeps them away from negative influences.
At Mundelein High School in Illinois, students returned from the Christmas break to find enchanting book-themed murals adorning the hallways. These murals, depicting the favorite books of three English teachers, aim to promote reading among students and create a literary atmosphere in the school.
Books are fun
The murals, costing $2,400, were designed by Visual Image Photography and feature book covers like “Wuthering Heights” and “All American Boys.” These larger-than-life murals not only grab attention but also convey the message that reading makes one knowledgeable and powerful.
According to Ron Girard, the school’s spokesperson, the murals have received widespread praise on social media, with many educators expressing interest in replicating the idea. This project serves as a creative way to encourage reading and spark conversations about literature among students.
