One of the most common questions I get as a cookbook author is “How do you come up with your recipes?” It’s a process that I find mysterious and fascinating. Recently, while working on my latest cookbook, I received a call from my editor urging me to include more sheet pan recipes. Despite having some already in the book, I knew she was right – sheet pan meals are the epitome of simplicity. As I pondered over ideas, I realized that my best recipes come from real-life experiences – cooking for my family, friends, and even during moments of quiet reflection. These recipes are born out of necessity and creativity, rather than a strict and structured process. The key is to find that perfect balance of simplicity and uniqueness, creating dishes that are both easy to make and special to enjoy. This approach may be unconventional, but it has led me to some of my most cherished recipes. In the end, it’s not just about making food, but about creating meals that bring joy and comfort to those who eat them. And yes, I did manage to come up with more amazing sheet pan recipes, like these Miso-Mushroom Tacos. Give them a try and experience the magic of simple yet delicious cooking!
