Enjoy a perfect cup of French press coffee to kick off your day! Making French press coffee is much simpler than you might think. You don’t need to be a coffee connoisseur to produce the ideal cup of coffee in under 15 minutes. We love starting our day with a cup of coffee and a little something sweet, like our incredible oatmeal recipes or maple cinnamon rolls!
There’s nothing quite like a good, strong cup of coffee in the morning. Using a French press coffee maker is simpler than you might imagine. All you need is some boiling water, coarse ground coffee, a French press, and you’re ready to go. At Fit Foodie Finds, we’re big coffee drinkers. Do we drink too much coffee? Sometimes. But we also balance our days with water and tea. For us, the perfect cup of coffee is hot, strong, and without cream. However, everyone has their own preference.
Why We Love French Press Coffee
A French press gives us more control over water temperature and brewing time, and it usually brews the perfect amount of coffee for 3-4 people. Plus, it’s great for making a small batch of great coffee. You can even control the strength of your coffee without needing a paper filter.
What is French Press Coffee?
French press coffee involves brewing coffee using a device called a French Press, which functions like a plunger and a strainer in one. After the coffee is brewed, you press the ground coffee beans to the bottom of the beaker with a fine mesh strainer, leaving you with strong, bold coffee.
Why Our Recipe is Different
Our French press coffee recipe is a little different because we use cups to measure both beans and water, rather than weighing the coffee grounds for the perfect water ratio to beans. This is more practical for those who don’t have a scale for their coffee beans.
Choosing Coffee Beans
When making French press coffee, it’s best to use whole bean coffee instead of pre-ground coffee. The flavor and freshness are much better with whole beans. We recommend using your favorite whole bean coffee and grinding it to a medium-coarse consistency.
No Scale? No Problem!
We understand that not everyone has a scale, so here are general measurements using a measuring cup:
– For 2 servings: 1/4 cup coffee beans and 2 cups water
– For 4 servings: 1/2 cup coffee beans and 4 cups water
However, feel free to adjust these measurements to your taste preference.
Getting the Perfect Grind
The grind of your coffee beans is essential when preparing French press coffee. Grind them too much, and you’ll have a muddy cup of coffee; grind them too little, and your coffee will be watery. We recommend using a burr grinder or blade grinder for best results.
Water Temperature Matters
It’s crucial to use the right water temperature for French press coffee. The ideal temperature is 200ºF. If your water isn’t hot enough, it won’t extract the flavor from the grounds. Bring your water to a rolling boil, then let it sit for at least a minute before pouring it over the ground coffee beans.
How Long to Brew
After pouring water into the French press and stirring the grounds, let everything brew for 5 minutes. This is the sweet spot for achieving the perfect flavor. Anything less may result in weak coffee, while anything over 5 minutes can make the coffee taste bitter.
