Girl Talk Is Making Waves – State of the Planet

March 8 marks International Women’s Day, celebrating women’s achievements and advocating for gender equality. This year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” focuses on ending poverty, gender-responsive financing, and nurturing feminist change-makers. Vicki Ferrini, a marine geophysicist and senior research scientist, embodies this theme through her work mapping the ocean floor and empowering women in ocean sciences with her workshop, Girl Talk. The program teaches participants how to process data, contribute to global mapping efforts, and explore career opportunities in a supportive environment led by women leaders in the field. Girl Talk aims to decentralize the field of ocean mapping, encouraging collaboration and diversity in STEM careers.
