Researchers are continually studying fibromyalgia in hopes of better understanding and treating the condition. A recent discovery from McGill University in Canada shows a strong connection between gut bacteria and fibromyalgia. Individuals with fibromyalgia have 19 different types of gut bacteria present in varying amounts compared to healthy individuals. This finding opens up new possibilities for diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia, a chronic syndrome that affects millions worldwide. More research is needed to determine if the gut microbiome plays a causal role in fibromyalgia or is simply a symptom. However, this discovery provides hope for improved management of this often misunderstood condition.
