Science for the Planet: Equitable Climate Adaptation for Coastal Communities
Climate adaptation expert Nadia Seeteram, a postdoctoral research scientist at the Climate School, is dedicated to studying the impact of sea-level rise on coastal communities. She specifically focuses on the effects of climate risks on housing infrastructure and housing needs. In her research, she explores how local and federal agencies are integrating these risks into urban planning and development.
Seeteram emphasizes the importance of proactive planning to address these challenges, stating, “We shouldn’t be thinking through these challenges in a reactive mode that almost ensures that we will have unequal societal outcomes.”
This video is part of the Science for the Planet series, which features experts from the Columbia Climate School discussing the effects of climate change and their efforts to address the crisis.
