Shay Bradley, a veteran of the Irish Defense Forces, passed away after battling illness. With a mischievous spirit, Shay wanted to bring solace and laughter to his friends and family even in their sadness. He was laid to rest in Kilmanagh, Kilkenny, Ireland.
In a pre-recorded message from the coffin, Shay exclaimed, “Hello, hello — let me out!” His friends and family couldn’t hold back their smiles, knowing Shay was playing one final prank on them. His message continued with humor and ended with an Irish tune, bringing tears of laughter and sorrow to the funeral guests.
Forever in their hearts
While some initially didn’t understand the joke and thought Shay was still alive, Chloe Kiernan, his granddaughter, shared that Shay’s ultimate goal was to make people laugh and smile, a wish he fulfilled even in his passing.
Shay’s daughter, Andrea, expressed her love and gratitude for her father’s sense of humor, referring to him as “Poppabear” and sharing the hashtag #shayslastlaugh on Facebook.

His military friends honored Shay’s memory and shared their condolences on social media, acknowledging the unique humor found within military circles and the lasting impact of Shay’s final prank. He was remembered as the man who brought laughter back to life.
