News broke yesterday that Daisy Ridley, known for her roles in the recent Star Wars trilogy and Young Woman and the Sea, has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Ridley, at 32 years old, was surprised by the symptoms—hot flashes and fatigue—that led to her diagnosis in September 2023.

In a recent interview with Women’s Health Magazine, Ridley revealed that she initially attributed her symptoms to stress from her role in the upcoming film Magpie. However, symptoms like a racing heart, weight loss, tremors, and fatigue were early indicators of Graves’ disease—a condition where the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone, causing hyperthyroidism.

Graves’ disease, commonly diagnosed in women over 30, accelerates bodily functions, leading to symptoms like a fast heart rate, weight loss, shakiness, and anxiety. If left untreated, it can result in severe complications like stroke, heart failure, and vision changes.

Celebrities like TV star Wendy Williams and rapper Missy Elliot also have Graves’ disease. Fortunately, the condition is treatable with medication and lifestyle adjustments. Ridley has found relief through a gluten-free diet, cryotherapy, acupuncture, and massage, allowing her to continue her acting career despite her health challenges.
