
On May 10th, the Columbia Climate School celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2024 in a special Class Day ceremony. The diverse group of students, with backgrounds ranging from anthropology to engineering, came together to mark the culmination of their studies.
In his address, Interim Dean Jeffrey Shaman praised the students for their resilience and highlighted the importance of community in times of challenge. The graduates were encouraged to be agents of change and beacon of hope for the planet.
While the official graduation will take place after summer internships, May symbolized the end of coursework and a time for reflection. Co-director Mingfang Ting expressed optimism about the future, believing that unity and collaboration can overcome the climate crisis.
Guest speaker Catherine Coleman Flowers inspired the graduates to fight for justice and emphasized the impact they can have on the world. The Class Day ceremony not only acknowledged the difficulties of climate change but also celebrated the opportunities for adaptation and collective action.
