Scientists in Haifa, Israel have made new breakthroughs in understanding how CBD extracted from cannabis benefits children with autism. Research conducted by Ayelet David and Eynat Gal at Haifa University revealed that CBD-rich cannabis products reduce anxiety and other symptoms in autistic children. The findings were published in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research.
In a study of 65 children aged 5-12 with autism, Israeli scientists found that customized doses of CBD-dominant cannabis extracts led to significant improvements in anxiety levels and restricted behaviors over a six-month period.

The study concluded that CBD-rich cannabis treatment showed promise in alleviating anxiety and symptoms of restricted behavior in children with autism. The researchers called for further double-blind studies to confirm these findings.
Similar studies have shown that cannabinoid treatment provides symptom relief in children with autism. Dr. Alan Shackleford, a prominent medical cannabis expert, suggested that THC may also play a role in achieving positive effects.
Observational studies on adults with autism have reported benefits from cannabis use. A randomized trial in 2023 from Israel showed that CBD-enriched extracts improved disruptive behaviors and core symptoms in autistic patients.
