When Kurt Andersen became the editor of New York Magazine, he banned a list of “annoying words” for his writers. At 32, I shared this list on Cup of Jo, adding my own despised word: moist.

Moist? It used to sound unpleasant, even off-putting. But as culture has evolved (thanks, Broad City!), words like moist, wet, and damp have taken on new, warm meanings to me.
