What is the best type of pots and pans to use? In a recent video, I expressed concerns about aluminum cookware. So, what’s the best option to consider? In my video “Stainless Steel or Cast Iron: Which Cookware Is Best? Is Teflon Safe?”, I discuss the benefits of stainless steel. This metal is a popular choice for kitchenware due to its safety and hygiene qualities. While there are studies showing that stainless steel may leach nickel and chromium into food, this typically only occurs with new cookware and decreases with use. Alternatively, cast iron is favored for its iron-enhancing properties, but caution must be taken when frying. On the other hand, nonstick pans, like those coated with Teflon, have a dark history of toxicity and should be used with caution. Cooking with nonstick pans has been linked to increased risks of certain cancers, potentially due to the high temperatures at which these pans are used. It’s important to be mindful of the cookware you use to reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals.
