Growing up in the floodplains of the White Nile in South Sudan, Anyieth Philip Ayuen witnessed the devastating impact of flooding on his community. His dream to mitigate climate-induced disasters led him to pursue a degree in agriculture and crop science. Despite being forced to relocate to Uganda as a refugee, Ayuen remained focused on his goals. He co-founded Dongriin Foundation to support refugee students and trained local farmers on solar-powered irrigation systems. Now, Ayuen has been awarded a Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students and is pursuing a master’s degree in Climate and Society. His journey of resilience and determination serves as an inspiration to others facing adversity.
