The Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels has contracted a consortium to renovate its Cairo Metro Line 1. The consortium includes France-based Colas Rail, Egypt’s Orascom Construction, and Japan’s Hitachi Rail in an 800 million EUR ($1.1 B USD) contract, divided among the three companies.
Cairo Metro Line 1 is the oldest underground train line in Egypt and is a key component of the city’s urban transport system, serving 1.5 million people daily. The investment aims to increase the line’s capacity.
