Summer Highlights From Climate and Society Graduates – State of the Planet

As the summer internships wrap up, graduates from the Columbia Climate School are venturing out into the world to apply their newfound knowledge and skills.

The MA in Climate and Society program students have spent the past year immersed in learning about climate change and social science. This interdisciplinary program, offered by the Climate School in collaboration with Columbia’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, equips professionals and scholars to understand and tackle the effects of climate variability and change on society and the environment.

Here are some summer highlights and future plans for four recent graduates:


María Martí Ramos (she/her)

  • Summer Position: Intern Advisor at Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations in New York City.
  • Sector: Sustainable Development / Global Policy
  • Ramos, an international student, holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business from Northeastern University (2013).

Ramos completed her internship at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations in New York City, where she actively participated in various U.N. meetings, supported delegates, and gained valuable insights into Sustainable Development Goals and negotiation processes.
