Nearly 20 types of vegetables, such as cucumbers, bell peppers, green beans, and parsley, have been recalled due to a potential listeria outbreak. Weirs Farm Inc., based in Ohio, has initiated the recall from major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, and Aldi in over a dozen states. This recall is an expansion of a previous one announced on July 12 related to cucumbers. Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a severe infection. The FDA has stated no reports of illnesses from the current recall, amidst a separate listeria outbreak linked to deli meats. The recalled vegetables include a variety of produce like poblano peppers, green beans, cucumbers, and parsley. Kroger has also issued a recall for stores in multiple states due to potential listeria contamination. Listeria is more likely to affect pregnant individuals, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can vary and become severe, especially for at-risk groups. Retailers are responding by removing recalled products from shelves, and Weirs Farm Inc. is working on resolving the situation. Basic food safety precautions should be followed to reduce the risk of listeria contamination. Additionally, pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems should avoid high-risk foods like soft cheeses and deli meats.
