In a TikTok video by Canadian sailor Sarah Douglas, athlete rooms are stocked with freebies like Olympic-themed luggage, Samsung Galaxy phones, and a colorful stack of condoms adorned with the official Paris Olympics and Paralympics mascots, the Phryges.
Each condom packet includes a message emphasizing consent and protection, such as “No need to be a gold medalist to wear it!” and “On the field of love, play fair. Ask for consent.” As more athletes arrive, new slogans are popping up, promoting safe practices like “Score a win: Yes to consent, no to STDs” and “Don’t share more than victory, protect yourself against STDs.”

While the Olympics’ “sexcapades” have become a topic of discussion over the years, the importance of protection is highlighted on this year’s condoms: “According to WHO, around 630,000 people died from HIV-related causes last year, and 1.3 million acquired HIV. Protect yourself, test yourself!”
