A San Mateo, California Uber driver has been arrested on charges of first-degree burglary after allegedly picking up passengers from their home, taking them to the airport, and then returning to break into their home. Video surveillance captured the driver attempting to break into multiple homes, stealing valuable possessions and trashing the properties. The suspect was identified as Jackie Gordon Wilson, age 38, and was apprehended with stolen property found in his home.
The victims, Scott and Chana, were unaware of the burglary as they had just returned home. Chana reported that the driver spent hours ransacking their house, taking valuable heirlooms, including items saved from her grandmother during the Holocaust. The incident was brought to light when Scott posted a video online, which led to the driver’s identification by another victim whose home alarm had been triggered.
Uber promptly removed the driver from their platform and cooperated with authorities in the investigation. This shocking incident raises concerns about rider safety and the need for enhanced security measures. While Uber offers safety features such as emergency buttons and trip-sharing options, maybe it’s time for the company to consider incorporating home security features to further protect its users.
