Masdar’s new solar energy park in Sharjah breaks ground in cooperation with French energy company EDF.
The Emirate of Sharjah celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for the largest solar installation in the region. The project, a collaboration between Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and Emerge Limited, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, will see a 60MWp solar PV plant generating clean energy to offset CO2 emissions and reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels.
This initiative aligns with the UAE’s Net-Zero 2050 strategy and supports SNOC’s commitment to decarbonization and achieving net-zero emissions by 2032. The project is a step towards a more sustainable, environmentally conscious future for the region.
The project will be managed by Emerge under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement, ensuring the operation and maintenance of the solar modules for 25 years. The goal is to empower SNOC to achieve its decarbonization goals and secure a more cost-effective energy future for Sharjah.
