Each one of us faces insecurities, doubts, and judgments. It’s unfortunate how many people endure ridicule daily instead of being celebrated for their differences. One woman with lymphedema decided to conquer her insecurities by becoming a model.
A model with lymphedema
Meet 23-year-old Mahogany Geter from Knoxville, known for her body positivity shoots on Instagram and YouTube. Diagnosed with lymphedema at a young age, Mahogany’s left leg has swollen due to fluid retention, adding 7st to her weight.
Insecurities growing up
Bullied for her enlarged leg since childhood, Mahogany battled insecurities and felt like an outcast. The constant unwanted attention made her feel ugly and different, leading to private tears.
The internet added to her struggles with hurtful comments. Despite facing ignorance and cruelty, Mahogany resolved to overcome her insecurities and celebrate her uniqueness.
Overcoming the bullies
One person suggested amputation as a solution, sparking Mahogany to create a powerful reaction video. She decided to embrace her condition and inspire others to love themselves for who they are.
Overcoming and inspiring
Supported by her mother and an online lymphedema community, Mahogany found strength to rise above negative comments and discover her true beauty. She now aims to inspire others to accept and celebrate their differences.
Mahogany’s lymphedema support
With her mother’s unwavering support and encouragement from fellow lymphedema warriors, Mahogany transformed her self-perception and found beauty within herself and in others.
Her rise to fame
Through her boldness and uniqueness, Mahogany gained popularity on social media platforms and became a beacon of inspiration for many struggling with self-acceptance.
Unique and proud
Mahogany’s refusal to hide her lymphedema in her photoshoots led to her growing presence on YouTube, where her story has touched millions. Her journey from insecurity to self-love is empowering and resonates with many who struggle with their own insecurities.
