Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that impacts individuals and their families, causing memory loss and cognitive decline. Traditional medications often only address symptoms without slowing the disease’s progression. However, recent research has shown promise in using electromagnetic waves as a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s.
The MemorEM Head Cap Study
A small study involving eight patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s tested the MemorEM head cap, which emits electromagnetic waves through a specialized cap worn by participants. Developed by NeuroEM Therapeutics, this cap showed significant cognitive improvement in seven out of the eight volunteers without any negative side effects.
Previous studies have indicated that the electromagnetic waves could break down amyloid-beta and tau proteins in the brain that contribute to Alzheimer’s symptoms. By destabilizing these proteins, the cap has the potential to reverse cognitive impairment caused by the disease.
To Measure Dementia: The ADAS-Cog Test
The ADAS-Cog test is commonly used to assess cognitive function in Alzheimer’s patients. In the MemorEM head cap trial, seven participants showed a four-point improvement in their ADAS-Cog scores after just two months, equivalent to a year’s worth of cognitive decline for Alzheimer’s patients.
The Treatment is Rising in Renown
Other companies, such as Neuronix, are also exploring electromagnetic wave treatments for Alzheimer’s, showing promising results. A larger clinical trial with 150 participants is planned by NeuroEM Therapeutics to further evaluate the efficacy of the MemorEM head cap in treating Alzheimer’s.
