What started as a normal breakfast turned into a terrifying ordeal for a man in Florida when his intestines fell out of his body due to a combination of coughing and sneezing. The incident occurred following a recent surgery, causing the man to experience a sharp pain and see his bowels protruding from a surgical wound on his abdomen.
His wife called an ambulance, and paramedics quickly arrived to assess the situation. Keeping the exposed intestines moist, they transported him to the hospital where surgeons were able to carefully place the intestines back inside the abdominal cavity without any damage.
The man had previously undergone surgery for complications related to prostate cancer, which involved the removal of the bladder. Post-operative wound dehiscence led to the rare complication of bowel evisceration through the surgical wound.
After a successful surgery to repair the wound, the man recovered without further issues and was discharged after six days. This incident highlights the importance of prompt emergency response and the need for medical personnel to be prepared for rare complications.
