When I lived in New York City, I often went for evening runs. I avoided my usual daytime routes and stuck to well-lit major avenues and cross streets. Moving to Denver put a halt to my nighttime runs, as the downtown area felt more isolated and unsafe. Most women feel anxious when running alone, with 92% reporting safety concerns in a recent Adidas survey. Strava has introduced new safety features to help runners feel more secure, such as Night Heatmaps showing well-trafficked routes during nighttime and Quick Edit for more control over shared information. These features give female runners more power to choose safer routes. The responsibility for staying safe while running still falls heavily on female runners, but tools like Strava can help provide better information and protection. Well+Good articles are backed by scientific studies, providing reliable information to support your wellness journey.
